Senior Software Engineer - Cloud Medical Products

About the role

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Vienna to help develop the next generation of cloud-based medical products for its growing infusion pump portfolio. You will join a multi-functional engineering team building applications on the BD Cloud Platform, working on areas such as drug library software, pump management or pump connectivity. Frontend, backend or full-stack engineers are welcome.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain complex features across new and existing cloud applications, including unit tests covering meaningful failure scenarios.
• Own complex user stories from requirements clarification through implementation and development testing, supporting Quality Engineers through final verification and defect resolution.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into actionable engineering work, clarify acceptance criteria and manage technical dependencies.
• Contribute across frontend, backend and service integration, coordinating with the automated verification team.
• Lead design discussions, document significant decisions and their tradeoffs, and use GitHub Copilot and other approved AI-assisted tools responsibly.
• Provide thorough code reviews, mentor less-experienced engineers and debug complex defects.
• Work with containerized applications and existing Kubernetes and Helm configurations, and follow the Quality Management System and development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Substantial professional software development experience with ownership of complex features.
• Strong working knowledge of at least one modern language such as C#, Java, Go or TypeScript.
• Ability to break down complex problems, make assumptions explicit and deliver without continuous direction.
• Experience giving technical guidance and reviewing others' work.
• Preferred: healthcare or regulated software experience, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.

Required skills

• Git, GitHub and Docker; understanding of service-oriented and monolithic architectures.
• Unit testing, automated testing, code review and debugging.
• Preferred: C#/.NET, React/TypeScript, Kubernetes, Helm, APIs, distributed systems, and familiarity with the V-model.

The role has no production support or on-call duties. Salary range: EUR 58,700 to 93,950 per year.
