Senior Accountant – Finance & Controls

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead financial closing activities, ensure accurate IFRS‑compliant reporting, and strengthen internal controls within the OPEC Fund’s Finance & Financial Controls unit. This fixed‑term position supports the Fund’s mandate by safeguarding the integrity of the chart of accounts and driving process improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quarterly accounting closings and produce timely financial statements and reports.
• Review and monitor all ledger entries, conduct reconciliations, and ensure consistency in transaction recording.
• Coordinate internal and external auditors, mentor junior staff, and manage cross‑departmental interactions.
• Update accounting policies to align with IFRS, research new standards, and implement them.
• Lead enhancements to the SAP ERP system, including migration to SAP S/4HANA, and oversee budget implementation and compliance.
• Develop and embed robust internal control systems, and provide recommendations for accounting and reporting improvements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and a recognized professional qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Minimum 10 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 5 years in an international development finance institution.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, corporate accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience with COSO internal control framework and SAP S/4HANA implementation.
