Budget and Finance Assistant (Temporary)

About the role

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs is seeking a temporary Budget and Finance Assistant to support its programme management team. Working under the Programme Management Officer and the Deputy Director, the incumbent will help develop budget proposals, monitor expenditures, and prepare financial reports.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing resource requirements, budget submissions and performance reports.
• Compile supporting documents, cost estimates and staff/non‑staff tables for budget proposals.
• Analyse variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures and draft final reports.
• Coordinate data input and consolidation across finance, budget and programme sections.
• Verify data accuracy, cross‑check figures and references, and flag inconsistencies.
• Prepare visualisations and keep financial dashboards up‑to‑date.
• Organise budgetary meetings, draft briefing notes and support documentation for budget bodies.
• Support the Deputy Director in extracting and analysing expenditure data from information‑system databases.
• Assist in preparing responses for financial audits, internal controls and risk‑management actions.
• Act as Certifying Officer for limited expenditures when required.

Required profile

• Experience in budget preparation, financial reporting or related administrative support.
• Ability to work under delegated authority and coordinate with multiple teams.
• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
