Senior Bioengineer – Human‑First Drug Discovery
parallel-bio · Vienna
Job description
About the role
Join a fast‑growing biotech that is redefining drug discovery by using human organoids and AI. As a Senior Bioengineer you will lead the design and implementation of next‑generation organoid culture formats that integrate immune cells and support multi‑tissue disease models.
Key responsibilities
- Advance organoid architecture and performance, including new approaches for immune cell integration.
- Design physical formats for multi‑organoid systems, defining plate architecture, compartmentalization, and interaction mechanisms.
- Develop co‑culture systems that link immune organoids with other tissue types for disease modeling.
- Implement bench‑level automation for routine culture work, from custom hardware to automated media handling.
- Document designs, run validation experiments, and collaborate with assay development, automation, and software teams across sites.
Required profile
- PhD in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biophysics, biotechnology or related field with 5+ years hands‑on experience (or MSc with 8+ years industry experience).
- Broad immunological background covering innate and adaptive immunity.
- Proven ability to drive technical projects independently from concept through prototype to validated system.
- Willingness to work on‑site in Vienna, including occasional weekend rotations.
Required skills
- Design and fabrication of custom culture hardware (CAD, 3D printing, soft lithography, laser cutting).
- Experience with 3D tissue/ organoid culture systems, hydrogels, scaffolds, ECM selection and matrix characterization.
- Knowledge of microfluidic and perfusion platforms.
- Solid cell‑culture techniques with primary human cells and iPSC culture.
- Familiarity with liquid‑handling robots (Hamilton, Tecan, Lynx) and automated incubators.
- Scripting experience in Python or R for instrument control and data analysis.
