Public Information Intern – News & Social Media

About the role

The United Nations Information Service Vienna is looking for a motivated Public Information Intern to support its News and Media Unit. This full‑time, on‑site internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in UN communications, media monitoring, and social‑media content creation across German‑ and English‑speaking audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor German‑language Austrian media for UN‑related topics and produce daily press reviews.
• Translate and summarize articles, and follow Austrian government press conferences.
• Draft and schedule social‑media posts for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, creating visuals with Canva.
• Write press releases, web content and other media texts in German and English.
• Assist with research, video/photo/audio production, and preparation of press briefings and outreach events.
• Support high‑level visits, conferences and other UN communication activities.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s programme (official university proof required).
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to its Charter.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Computer literacy in standard software applications.

Required skills

• Canva for visual content creation.
