Mountain Biodiversity Specialist – Level B

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Mountain Biodiversity Specialist (Level B) to support the Vanishing Treasures project, focusing on the Bhutan component. This home‑based consultancy will run for six months, requiring approximately ten days of work per month (total 60 days). The specialist will advocate for the integration of mountain issues into international environmental processes, particularly the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver service results against outputs, milestones and indicators of the Vanishing Treasures project.
• Provide technical assistance and advisory services related to mountain biodiversity and climate‑change adaptation.
• Support advocacy efforts to mainstream mountain considerations within international bodies such as the CBD.
• Collaborate with UNEP’s Ecosystems Division, the Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit, and the project manager (Programme Management Officer).

Required profile

• Experience in biodiversity conservation, especially in mountain ecosystems.
• Knowledge of climate‑change adaptation for vulnerable species.
• Familiarity with international environmental conventions, notably the Convention on Biological Diversity.
• Ability to work remotely and deliver results within a defined schedule.
