Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling Internship

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) seeks interns to support its Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section in Vienna. Interns will assist with research, technical assistance, and the preparation of policy and training materials.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct background research and analysis on country situations, trends, and legal frameworks related to human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
• Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of regional and national technical assistance projects.
• Assist in preparing training materials, briefing notes, presentations, and communication products.
• Collect and analyse case‑law, legislation, and manage information on UNODC online platforms.
• Help organise intergovernmental meetings, expert group sessions, and other events.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate or final‑year bachelor programme in criminology, law, political/social sciences, international relations or a related field.
• Strong analytical and drafting abilities, with a demonstrated interest in UN work and the Charter ideals.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Computer literacy with standard software applications.
