Freelance Lead Auditor – SA8000/SMETA (Austria)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Lead Auditor specialized in social accountability standards to work on a freelance, project‑based basis in Austria. The role involves planning, executing and reporting audits for infrastructure and industrial sites, with flexible, call‑based collaboration aligned to our audit calendar.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive audits against SA8000 and/or SMETA standards.
• Lead audit teams through planning, fieldwork, and reporting phases.
• Assess compliance with labour practices, health & safety, environmental and business ethics management systems.
• Interview workers and perform site inspections to verify conditions and rights.
• Document findings, non‑conformities and corrective‑action recommendations in detailed reports.
• Communicate results to project management, procurement and client stakeholders and maintain traceable audit documentation.

Required profile

• Hold a current SA8000 Lead Auditor Certification or SMETA Lead Auditor Certification.
• Minimum of 3 + years hands‑on experience conducting social accountability and ethical audits.
