About the role
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a Firearms and Ammunition Trafficking Expert to lead a comprehensive study on illicit arms flows. Working remotely with periodic travel to Vienna, the consultant will support UNODC’s efforts to understand and mitigate the global impact of illegal firearms trafficking.
Key responsibilities
- Develop a methodological approach for collecting and analysing data on firearms and ammunition trafficking.
- Review existing literature and data sources to structure the study.
- Prepare a detailed work plan addressing identified information gaps.
- Produce draft reports, incorporate feedback from UNODC and external experts, and deliver a final study.
- Ensure timely integration of comments from internal and expert reviews.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in security studies, criminology, international relations, or a related field.
- Proven experience conducting research on illicit arms, organized crime, or terrorism.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with UNODC staff and external experts.
