Deputy Head of Policy Research and Migration Law

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Deputy Head to lead its Policy Research and Migration Law Unit in Vienna. Reporting to the Unit Head and the Chief of Mission, you will shape research agendas, supervise teams, and ensure the effective implementation of the National Contact Point Austria within the European Migration Network.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate and supervise research activities on migration law and policy.
• Oversee the implementation of the National Contact Point Austria in the European Migration Network.
• Manage unit budgets, donor reporting and project development.
• Guide academic research, ensure quality of publications and statistical analyses.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners, including governmental and inter‑governmental bodies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Economics, Political or Social Sciences, International Relations or a related field with at least four years of relevant experience (PhD/Master’s preferred).
• Alternatively, a high‑school diploma with six years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience in budgeting, donor reporting and project development.
• Prior experience in IOM or other international organizations is an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing research projects and producing academic publications in migration and asylum.
• Familiarity with statistical methods and data analysis.
