Optical Engineer (m/f/d) - High-Power Lasers

About the role

MKS is looking for an R&D Engineer in Laser and Optics (m/f/d) to join its photonics team in the high-power laser division at its Rankweil location. You will work in an international team of experienced development engineers on the product development of ultrafast pulsed lasers, within system engineering. After an initial onboarding phase, you will work closely with the reliability engineering and product marketing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Execute experiments to test conceptual designs and document optical system performance
• Use software computational tools to support the design and analysis of optical systems
• Work with reliability, mechanical and electrical engineers to evaluate and document opto-mechanical and electro-optical specifications
• Define test strategies, build, test and document system prototypes, measuring optical and opto-electronic parameters and creating test reports and design documentation such as optical diagrams, drawings and component specifications
• Analyse, document and evaluate experimental results
• Work in a multi-disciplinary team with electrical, mechanical, software and manufacturing engineers to develop new products and transfer the design to production
• Guide and train technicians on new processes and optical measurement techniques

Required profile

• Master's degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or a related field, with 3+ years of industry experience
• Willingness to learn and openness to change
• Independent, analytical and result-oriented approach
• Ability to independently define opto-electronic measurement procedures, carry them out, evaluate results and communicate conclusions to peers and management
• Fluent English
• Ideally, practical experience in ultrafast pulse laser R&D

Required skills

• Experience with optical measurement instruments: beam parameter analyzers, power meters, auto-correlators, fast opto-electronics, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and spectrometers, scanning interferometers
• Interdisciplinary thinking and enjoyment of innovative solutions
• Initial methodological competence in project management
