ISO Lead Auditor - Industrial & Machinery Sector (Austria)

About the role

We are looking for experienced freelance ISO Lead Auditors to serve the Austrian market, focusing on industrial manufacturing and machinery sectors. The role involves conducting multi‑scope audits covering quality, environmental and occupational health & safety management systems for industrial enterprises.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site audits at industrial facilities and manufacturing plants across Austria.
• Perform production‑floor assessments, machinery inspections and desktop reviews of management system documentation.
• Interview key personnel such as production managers, quality engineers, HSE officers and procurement managers.
• Assess compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and Austrian legal requirements.
• Document findings, non‑conformities and observations, and prepare bilingual audit reports in German and English.

Required profile

• ISO/IEC 17021 Lead Auditor certification (or equivalent recognised accreditation).
• Minimum 6 + years experience as Lead Auditor in industrial/manufacturing sectors.
• Fluent German (C1/C2) and English (B2+).
• Proven audit experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, including initial, surveillance and recertification audits.
• Knowledge of Austrian/EU industrial regulations and machinery directives (preferred).

Required skills

• Audit expertise for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2023.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, assembly and testing.
• Familiarity with machinery safety standards (ISO 12100) and the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
• Ability to assess environmental and occupational health & safety management systems.
• Proficiency in preparing detailed audit reports in both German and English.
