Finance Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer will join the Financial Reporting and Oversight Unit of the United Nations Office at Vienna, supporting UNOV and UNODC operations. Reporting to the Chief of FROU, the role involves managing complex financial activities across multiple funding sources and ensuring compliance with UN financial regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end financial operations, including grant management, treasury, payroll, vendor claims, travel, billing and bank reconciliation.
• Approve and confirm obligations and expenditures in line with UN Financial Regulations, appropriations and staffing tables.
• Analyse accounts, prepare regular financial reports and resolve problem transactions.
• Maintain accurate accounting, reporting and internal control systems and ensure proper record‑keeping.
• Prepare and consolidate financial statements for entities under UNOV delegated authority and respond to audit observations.
• Collect and visualise data to identify trends, supporting data‑driven decision‑making.
• Support the development and implementation of new accounting systems and improve existing processes.
• Guide, train and supervise staff and provide finance‑related support to field offices.
• Oversee EU funding arrangements, monitor risk management activities and coordinate internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Professionalism with strong knowledge of UN financial regulations and accounting principles.
• Experience supervising finance teams and handling large‑volume transactions.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and propose corrective actions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with modern ERP accounting systems, specifically UMOJA (SAP).
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Competence in data visualization techniques for reporting.
