Senior Information Management Officer – Temporary

About the role

The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Afghanistan (IIMA) seeks a senior professional to lead its information management function in Vienna. The role is temporary, full‑time and reports directly to the Head of IIMA, supporting the collection, preservation and analysis of evidence of serious international crimes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team handling evidence management, information systems and information security, translating investigative needs into technical solutions.
• Design, implement and enforce IIMA’s information governance policies, ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of evidence throughout its lifecycle.
• Develop and execute the digital support strategy, overseeing major IT projects, change management and procurement of technology services.
• Engage external partners—including academia, civil society and the private sector—to enhance investigative capacity and operational efficiency.
• Manage the information systems budget, monitor performance standards and remove impediments to timely service delivery.

Required profile

• Demonstrated professionalism in applying technology to international investigations, with strong knowledge of evidentiary and data‑protection standards.
• Proven ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, allocate resources and anticipate risks in a complex environment.
• Excellent teamwork skills, fostering collaboration, shared decision‑making and a safe, blame‑free workplace.
• Experience in managing performance, delegating authority, providing feedback and coaching staff.
