Senior Information Management Officer (Temporary)

About the role

The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Afghanistan (IIMA) is looking for a senior professional to lead its Information Management function in Vienna. This temporary, full‑time position supports the collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence related to serious international crimes and human rights violations in Afghanistan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and direct a multidisciplinary team handling evidence management, information systems, and information security.
• Translate operational needs of investigators, analysts, and legal staff into coherent strategies, workflows, and technological solutions.
• Define priorities, work plans, service standards and performance expectations aligned with investigative and judicial priorities.
• Oversee delivery, maintenance and continuous improvement of information systems and digital services, managing operational risks and service issues.
• Remove impediments to timely service delivery and guide the section in problem‑solving.
• Provide professional leadership, mentorship and performance management for staff.
• Participate in recruitment, selection and training program development.
• Design, implement and enforce IIMA’s information governance policies to ensure confidentiality, integrity, availability and security of information and evidence assets.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in managing information systems, evidence management or related digital services.
• Strong leadership and team‑management skills, with ability to mentor and develop staff.
• Experience working with investigators, analysts, lawyers and other stakeholders in a complex, multi‑disciplinary environment.
• Deep understanding of information governance, data security and lifecycle management of sensitive evidence.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and capacity to design and implement service standards.
