Scientific Project Assistant (Pre‑Doctoral)

About the role

The University of Vienna seeks a pre‑doctoral scientific project assistant to join Dr. Pavel Pokhilko’s research team. You will work on developing new coupled‑cluster methods for strongly correlated molecules and materials, and apply these methods to magnetic materials and catalysts within Prof. Leticia González’s group.

Key responsibilities

• Participate actively in the FWF ASTRA Merit project “Coupled‑Cluster Methods for Strongly Correlated Materials”.
• Develop and implement coupled‑cluster and many‑body methods for strongly correlated systems.
• Apply the newly created methods to realistic magnetic materials and catalytic systems.
• Write high‑performance C++ code for scientific applications.
• Present research results at conferences and in internal meetings.

Required profile

• MSc (or equivalent) in chemistry, physics or a related discipline, obtained before the start date.
• Strong written and spoken English skills (German not required).
• Solid knowledge of quantum mechanics and quantum chemistry.
• Experience in programming and a passion for solving complex mathematical problems.
