Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our fast‑growing AI‑first fintech scale‑up in Vienna. You will design and build scalable Python services, connect them with data infrastructure, and help embed large language model (LLM) capabilities into our product.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Build reliable APIs, integrations and business logic for financial data workflows.
• Improve system performance, security, reliability and maintainability.
• Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks.
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision‑making.
• Develop production‑ready features powered by LLMs and integrate them into existing services.
• Design AI workflows, tool‑calling, structured outputs and multi‑step agent processes.
• Collaborate closely with product, frontend and other engineering teams.

Required profile

• Strong fundamentals in backend engineering and Python development.
• Curiosity about data engineering and AI product engineering.
• Willingness to grow into data‑engineering responsibilities over time.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an international, fast‑paced environment.
