Lead Scientist – Chemistry & Raw Materials

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Scientist to drive raw material characterization for cell‑culture media at Cytiva. The role combines method development, analytical testing and cross‑functional technical support to ensure high‑quality raw materials for biopharmaceutical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and validate analytical methods for raw material testing.
• Perform routine and advanced analyses using HPLC, UHPLC, LC‑MS, ICP‑MS, QToF and related instruments.
• Investigate raw material issues, design experiments and interpret data.
• Provide technical support to quality, MSAT, product engineering, R&D and sourcing teams.
• Prepare and deliver oral and written presentations for internal and external audiences, including conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, or MSc with ≥2 years industry experience, or BSc with ≥4 years industry experience.
• Strong experience operating HPLC, UHPLC, LC‑MS, ICP‑MS, QToF instruments.
• Excellent written and spoken communication in English and German.

Required skills

• Analytical instrumentation software such as Empower or MassHunter.
• Data analysis using Python, R or similar tools.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and raw material quality attributes.
